あかつき再投入（Akatsuki Cycle）

文部科学省の宇宙開発委員会専門部会は３１日、宇宙航空研究開発機構（ＪＡＸＡ）の金星探査機「あかつき」の平成２２年の周回軌道投入失敗について、主エンジンに燃料を送るための弁の設計不良が原因だったとする調査報告書案を了承した。あかつきは金星に向かう約半年間の飛行中、蒸発した酸化剤と燃料が反応して想定を超える量の塩を生成。これが燃料タンク側の弁に付着して弁が開かなくなり、必要な燃料が主エンジンに届かず軌道投入に失敗した。
　調査したＪＡＸＡの稲谷教授は記者会見で「想定外だったが、設計段階で防げたはずで大変残念」と話した。また機体の状態が良ければ１６年６月に再投入を目指す方針を明らかにした。
　この場合、当初の円軌道から楕円軌道になり、離れた場所からの金星観測となるが、大気や雲などの観測には大きな影響はないという。
　あかつきは昨年１１月、故障した主エンジンの代わりに小型エンジンを使い、金星方向に軌道を修正。１５年１１月に金星に最接近する。だが、この時点で周回軌道に投入すると、金星の大気観測に不向きの軌道となってしまうため、次に接近する１６年６月に軌道投入することにした。
　ただ、再投入の時期を延ばせば、あかつき本体の劣化が進む。宇宙機構は、次回の接近の直前に機体の状態を確認し、状態が悪ければ１５年１１月に再投入する。
　長いスパンの話ですから本体の劣化が気になりますね。適格な状況把握をして投入時期を検討して最善の結果を出してほしいですね。
