　現在、学区内に住む主婦や自営業者ら６０歳代を中心に２２人のボランティアが、全学年で週２回、百人一首のほか、担任が学習進度に応じて用意した計算ドリルを指導する。毎回、終了後は、校長の同席を得て報告会を開き、子どもたちの様子などを日誌に書いて担任に引き継いでいる。
　「国語力や計算力が向上しているほか、遅刻が減り、１時間目の授業に落ち着いて臨めるようになった。地域の大人と交流することで社会性も育まれている」と、鈴木校長は効果を語る。教員たちも、自らの指導力を再確認したり、子どもの長所を発見したりでき、役に立っているという。
