　「秋入学」は、国際的な標準に合わせる意味では必要だと思います。ただ、より根本的な問題として、大学の研究と教育のクオリティー（質）を上げることが一番大事です。残念ながら日本の研究者は世界的なレベルではあまりに低い。日本の最高学府である東大でさえ、少なくとも私の専門である環境エネルギー政策分野で、世界で通用する学者はほとんどいないのが実情です。
　学生の側で言えば、入試制度を根本的に変えることも必要です。現在は「知識詰め込み型」ですが、こんな試験で育った人間が、世界の舞台で通用しないのは明白です。だからこれをもうやめて、米国やフランスで実施されているような一定水準の学力が認められれば入学できる「最低水準型」にすべきです。今後日本で少子化が進めば、１人で２人分、３人分の価値のある仕事ができる人材が増えなければ、現在の国力は維持できない。クリエーティブな人材をいかに育てるかが喫緊の課題です。
　そうなると日本の初等教育から再編成することも考えねばならない。東大には、ここまで提言してほしいですね。
