肺がんの発症に関係する新しい遺伝子（A new gene involved in the pathogenesis of lung cancer）

日本人のがんで死亡者が最も多い肺がんの発症に関係する新しい遺伝子を、自治医科大学などのグループが発見し、治療薬の開発につながると期待されている。
　自治医科大学とがん研究会のグループは、肺がんの半分を占める「肺腺がん」の一部に、特定の正常な遺伝子と別の遺伝子が結びついて発症しているものがあることに着目。そして肺がんの患者１５００人から提供を受けたがん細胞を詳しく分析した結果、肺腺がんの患者だけから、こうした変異のある遺伝子が新たに６個見つかり、マウスの実験で、実際にがんを引き起こすことを確かめた。
　一方で、同じような遺伝子の変異によって起きる甲状腺がんなどの治療薬を使うといずれの遺伝子も働きが抑えられ、細胞はがん化しなかったとしています。肺がんで亡くなる患者は全国で毎年６万人を超えていますがこのうち見つかった６個の遺伝子のいずれかを持つ人は１％程度とみられています。
　研究を行った自治医科大学の間野教授は、「今回発見した遺伝子を持つ肺腺がんの患者には、海外で使われている甲状腺がんの治療薬が効く可能性が高い。安全性や有効性を確認して一刻も早く、国内の患者が使えるようにしたい」と話している。
　今回見つかった６個の遺伝子のうち１つについては、国内の２つのグループも別々に発見していて、１３日、同時に公表しました。
　年間万人もの方々が亡くなっていく肺がんですから早期に治療薬の開発につながっていくことを期待したいですね。
