ボストーク湖(Lake Vostok)

南極の氷の下約４キロに眠るボストーク湖の調査のため、氷を掘り進めてきたロシアの研究チームのドリルが湖の表面に達した。ＡＦＰ通信が６日、伝えた。湖の水は１００万年前から今の状態を保っているとみられ、太古の微生物が存在するかが注目されている。

　レーダー調査で、南極の氷の下には淡水湖が多数存在することがわかっている。ロシアのボストーク基地の下にあるボストーク湖はその中でも最大級で、広さが琵琶湖の約２０倍ある。 水深どれぐらいなんでしょうかね。氷に閉ざされた環境ですから大きな生物は存在することができないでしょうが興味は尽きないですね。
