しんかい６５００（Shinkai 6500）

海洋研究開発機構の潜水調査船「しんかい６５００」の改造工事が終了し、駿河湾での潜航訓練の様子が１６日、報道陣に公開された。
　１９８９年に建造された同船は３人乗り。今回の改造で、スクリューなどを備えた推進器を４台から６台に増設、加速や制動の能力が向上したほか、全方向にスムーズに移動できるようになった。熱水が噴出する複雑な地形や切り立った崖での試料採取など、高度な調査観測も可能となる。
　この日の訓練は、静岡県伊豆市から約１３キロ沖合の駿河湾の海底（水深約１５００メートル）で約５時間にわたり実施。２３日から本格的な調査で使用する予定という。日本にとっての貴重な海洋です。様々な観点から調査を進めてほしいですね。
