創建時の鳳凰堂内部を再現（Internal reproduce the Phoenix Hall at the time of foundation）

世界遺産の平等院（京都府宇治市）は、境内のミュージアム鳳翔館に設置している国宝・鳳凰(ほうおう)堂内部の実物大模型の柱や梁(はり)を創建時（１０５３年）の極彩色で再現し、１８日に報道陣に公開した。１９日から一般公開する。
　鳳凰堂内の柱と梁を蛍光エックス線などで調査。極彩色の装飾を復元模写し、印刷した塩化ビニールシートを模型に貼り付けた。楽器を奏でながら舞う菩薩(ぼさつ)、緑や紫の鳳凰などが、阿弥陀如来(あみだにょらい)が描かれていた扉とともに鮮やかによみがえった。
　模型は、正面扉がある鳳凰堂東半分の内部で、幅１１メートル、高さ５メートル。今回の柱と梁の再現で、極楽浄土の世界を表現した堂内部が完成した。神居住職は「平安人が理想にした浄土世界を立体的に体感できる」と話している。
　歴史の流れと共に変色してしまって当時の面影を感じることができない神社仏閣ですが、当時の姿を復元した様子を見ると極彩色に驚かされます。古の方々は現代人より色彩感覚が優れていたのかな～と感じてしまったりします。ぜひ、一般公開に行ってみたいですね。
