現代のバイオリンと大差なし（No special difference to the modern violin）

何億円もすることで有名なバイオリンの名器「ストラディバリウス」や「ガルネリ」は、現代のバイオリンと大差ないとする意外な実験結果を仏パリ大学の研究者らが３日、米科学アカデミー紀要で発表した。

　研究チームは、２０１０年、米インディアナ州で開かれた国際コンテストに集まった２１人のバイオリニストに協力しても らい、楽器がよく見えないよう眼鏡をかけたうえで、１８世紀に作られたストラディバリウスや、現代の最高級バイオリンなど計６丁を演奏してもらった。どれ が一番いい音か尋ねたところ、安い現代のバイオリンの方が評価が高く、ストラディバリウスなどはむしろ評価が低かった。

研究チームは「今後は、演奏者が楽器をどう評価しているかの研究に集中した方が得策」と、名器の歴史や値段が影響している可能性を指摘している。素材や構造の違いもあまりないんでしょうから意外な結果でもないような気もしますね。逆に、音響工学やコンピュータを駆使して、より素晴らしいバイオリンの名器が出来上がってもおかしくない気がしますね。
