ビックフット（Big Foot）

北米にいるとされる未知の大型類人猿「ビッグフット」を科学的に研究しようと、米アイダホ州立大が今月、世界初の専門の電子版学術誌を開設した。　ビッグフットは、ゴリラを大きくしたような体格で二足歩行し、北米の太平洋側を中心に目撃や足跡の報告が絶えない。しかし、いたずらや熊などの見間違いも多く、科学界では長く、未確認飛行物体（ＵＦＯ）や幽霊などと同様のたわごととして無視されてきた。　ただ、足跡の中には、地面をけって滑った跡、足紋が全面に残るもの、骨格の発育不全、切り傷が治ったような跡などが見つかっている。　一部の研究者は、ビッグフットは身長２メートル以上、夜行性で、約１０万年前に絶滅した身長３メートルの巨大類人猿ギガントピテクスの生き残りがベーリング海峡をわたって北米に分布を広げたのではないかなどと真剣に議論している。アジアの「雪男」（イエティ）などは近縁種とみられる。実際に存在しているんでしょうかね？地球上には、まだまだ未発見の生物が存在しているんでっしょうからいてもおかしくはないでしょうね。
