長野県南佐久郡南部の５町村８小学校が参加する「南佐久南部小学校スケート大会」が１９日、同郡小海町の松原湖高原スケートセンターで開かれた。前身の大会から５０回の節目を迎えたが、地域のリンクが減り、児童の中で技術差が大きくなったことから今回で幕を閉じる。
　前身大会は１９６３（昭和３８）年に開始。スケートが盛んな地域で交流を深める場になっていた。近年はスケートクラブに入っていない児童らが大会を敬遠する空気も強まったため存続するかどうかを検討し、今季限りと決めた。
　最後の大会は５、６年生計約２８０人が１００～５００メートルの３種目に分かれて力走。各校のスケート大会は残ることなどから、南牧南小の佐藤校長は「南佐久のスケートの灯を絶やさないようにしたい」と話していた。昔は、小学校の近くの田んぼに水を張った田んぼスケートが、必ず午前中の授業が入っていました。ですからみんなスケートは滑れましたね。オリンピックの選手も多く輩出されたのではないかと思いますね。田んぼリンクは、この頃は見かけないですね。大きなリンクも少なくなっていますからスケートの灯も消えそうな状況ですから消さないように頑張ってほしいものです。
