日本マイクロソフトは１８日、パソコンの基本ソフト（ＯＳ）「ウィンドウズ８．１」を発売した。昨年１０月に投入した「８」では廃止していた「スタートボタン」を復活させたほか、「７」までと同様のデザインの「デスクトップ画面」を選べるようにした。
　「８」は、タブレット端末での利用を見込んで、画面に触れて操作するタッチパネル方式を使えるようにした。起動直後の画面は、アプリやフォルダ、よく使うサイトなどを選ぶボタンを四角いタイルのようなデザインにした。これに対し、従来のウィンドウズに慣れた利用者から、スタートボタンがないのは不便で、「タイル」は使いにくいとの指摘が出ていた。
　日本マイクロソフトはこの日、東京都内で報道向けの発表会を開いた。会場にはタブレット２５台、ノート型パソコン３９台が並び、１４メーカーの幹部がマイクロソフトとともに年末商戦に向けて新しいＯＳ、新しい端末をアピールした。
市場調査会社「ＭＭ総研」によると、日本のパソコン市場は２０１２年度から縮小傾向をたどっている。マイクロソフトは１２年度、パソコン向けＯＳで９４．６％のシェアがあったものの、拡大するタブレット向けでは約５％にとどまる。日本マイクロソフトの樋口社長はタブレット向けについて「しぶとく、ジワジワと追い上げていきたい」と話した。
　税抜きの希望小売価格は、家庭用が１万３８００円、法人向けの「Ｐｒｏ」が２万５８００円。「８」のユーザーは、無料で「８．１」への更新ができる。
　XP・Vista・７・８と続いて来ましたがVistaは不評でした。同じような規則にしたがうと8は不評といった感じになると予想されますね。オフィスなどではタッチパネル方式よりはキーボードから入力することが多いでしょうから、そんな所からも人気がないのかもしれません。ともかく、新しいOSを使ってみましょう。
