独立行政法人の新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構（ＮＥＤＯ）が、血液検査だけで乳がんになりやすい体質かどうかを調べる技術を実用化することが２２日、分かった。平成２７年にも診断を受けられるようにする方針で、発病の防止や早期治療に役立てる。ＮＥＤＯによると、こうしたがん発症の予測診断は世界初という。
　国内で年間６万人弱が発症する乳がんは、早期発見で命が助かる見込みが極めて高い病気。腫瘍の大きさが２センチメートル以下程度の発症初期の「第１期ステージ」で治療を進めれば、５年生存率は９０％以上といわれる。しかし、胸の触診などが求められる検査は敬遠されがちで、発見と治療が遅れるケースも目立つ。
　ＮＥＤＯが実用化する予測検診は、山口大学大学院医学系研究科の末広准教授と東洋紡に委託して共同研究を進めてきた。
　研究チームは、女性の体内に乳がんを発症する遺伝子の働きを強めて発症リスクを高める別の遺伝物質があることを発見。一般的にがん遺伝子があるだけでは発症しないが、この物質ががん遺伝子に近づくほど、がんになりやすいことを突き止めた。乳がんになりやすい体質になった場合でも、運動不足を解消するなどの生活習慣の改善で、発症リスクを下げることが期待できる。
　検査では少量の血液を採取して、がん遺伝子とＤＮＡの近付き具合を診断して、発症リスクの有無を調べる。乳がんが発症するかどうかが最大８０％の確率で分かるという。来年３月までに２０歳以上の約１千人の女性に検査を行い、その後の経過も観察し詳しいデータをまとめる。これまでがんができているかを血液から調べる検査はあったが、予測診断はなかった。
　乳がんの血液検診が実用化されれば、国内だけでなく海外からも診断を求める女性が増え、医療産業の裾野を広げることも期待されている。
　検査にも抵抗があったでしょうが、血液検査だけで予測診断が出来れば利用者も増えるでしょうね。結果的に乳がんの早期発見・早期治療に大きく貢献することでしょうね。
