医療や介護分野で使う生活支援ロボットの普及に向け、関西の産官学が、大阪市内の病院跡地に「模擬病院」を開設して試作ロボットの実証実験に乗り出す。
　高齢者の見守りや移動の手助けなどをするロボットの実用化を図るのが狙いで、２０１４年度の開始を目指す。国内初の取り組みで、全国から関連企業を呼び込み、ロボット関連の産業を育てたい考えだ。
　元パナソニックロボット事業推進センター所長で大阪工業大の本田教授らが発起人となって今夏、設立された「スマートウェルネス研究会」（代表幹事＝福島・淀川キリスト教病院理事）が中心となって進める。
　移転した淀川キリスト教病院（大阪市東淀川区）跡に旧病棟を改造するなどして診察室や手術室、検査室、病室などの施設を再現する。同病院や大阪大学病院などの医師や看護師らが立ち会い、各企業が持ち込んだロボットで、患者がベッドやいすに移る際の介助、重作業支援、投薬補助といった作業を実際に確かめ、使い勝手や課題などを探る。
　患者に優しい介護ロボットの実用化に向けて実証実験を進めてください。同時にロボット関連産業が大きく育っていくきっかけになることを期待します。
