父親も育児を楽しもうと訴える団体が、１０月１９日を「イクメンの日」と定め、東京都内で同日、イベントを開いた。子育てに積極的に取り組む男性として、いずれもタレントの中山秀征、つるの剛士とサッカー日本代表の遠藤保仁の３人を「イクメン　オブ　ザ　イヤー」に選んだ。
　授賞式には、そろって４人の子を持つ中山とつるのが出席。中山は育児に力を入れるようになったきっかけを「人数が増えて妻だけでは手に負えなくなった」と笑顔で振り返った。つるのは「育児が第一ではなく、妻のことを思って自然に手伝っている」と話した。
　イベントは、テレビなどで活躍し自らも子育て中のプロデューサーおちまさとさんが中心になり企画。厚生労働省が後援した。イクメンの日は「１０（父）さん」「１９（育）児」の語呂合わせで、日本記念日協会の認定を受けた。
　昔は、子どもの教育をはじめ家庭の事は、母親任せだったように思いますが、時代と共に子育てに参加するのが当たり前になっていくんでしょうね。
