兵庫県西宮市の医療機器製造・販売ベンチャー「ライトニックス」は、蚊の針をまねた痛みの少ない注射針を近く米国で発売する。血糖値測定用の注射針「ピンニックスライト」。１０年がかりで開発・商品化し、国内では昨年から販売。米国でも早ければ来月中に販売を始める。福田社長は「社会に役立つものを作ろうと取り組んできた。人にも環境にも優しい注射針を世界に広げたい」と話す。
　糖尿病患者が血糖値を調べる際に使用する。長さ０．９ミリ、幅０．４ミリ。蚊に刺されても痛くないことに着目し、蚊の針のように波打たせた。皮膚との摩擦が少なくなり、痛みが軽減するという。糖尿病患者には１日に複数回、血糖値を測る人もいるため、小児患者らの負担を減らすために作った。廃棄のしやすさにもこだわり、世界で初めて樹脂製針を使用。生分解性素材のために埋めても環境に優しく、金属の針と異なり、焼却できる。
　福田社長は２００２年に同社を設立した。０７年に注射針を開発すると、安全性を証明する実験と改良を重ね、１２年３月に近畿地方でピンニックスライトの販売を開始。今年８月から全国展開しており、これまでに約１０万本を売り上げた。
　さらに今年２月には米食品医薬品局（ＦＤＡ）から販売許可を得て、近くカリフォルニア、テキサス両州で販売する。シンガポールと台湾でも薬事申請の準備を進めている。福田社長は「米国にも糖尿病患者は多い。患者の苦痛を少しでも減らせればうれしい」と話している。
　患者さんにとって痛みの少ない注射針はありがたいでしょうね。まだ痛い治療や注射はたくさんあるように思います。痛みを軽減する治療器具をたくさん開発してほしいですね。
