　発案したのは経済学部３年の澤井さん。昨年１０月、同じ学部の友人たちと学生起業団体「ＡＩＯ（アイオ）」を結成し、代表を務める。通学に 利用するＪＲ南草津駅周辺で吸い殻が捨てられているのを見て、再利用できないかと考えた。地元の清掃活動に参加し、パチンコ店やガソリンスタンドにも呼びかけて吸い殻を集めた。
　立命館大や京都工芸繊維大の教授らの協力を得て、フィルターから有害物質を取り除き、ほぐして糸にすることに成功。紡績と布地にする工程は大阪、和歌山の業者に依頼した。
　Ｔシャツには、フィルターの繊維が３割ほど使われている。太さが均一でないため、布地には、でこぼこした独特の風合いがある。専門家からも「風通しが良く、吸湿性もいい」と評価されたという。
ゴミの中でも厄介な「タバコ」を再利用するとは考えましたね。実用化には、コストの問題もあるでしょうが、ぜひ、商品化して欲しい気がしますね。
