ガン８割完治（80 percentage cure cancer）

体に無害な赤外線を使った新しいがんの治療法を米国立保健研究所（ＮＩＨ）の小林チーフサイエンティストらが開発した。マウスの実験では８割で完治、副作用もなかった。６日付の米医学誌ネイチャー・メディシン（電子版）に発表した。
　小林さんらのチームは、光を受けると熱を出す特殊な化学物質に着目。この化学物質と、がん細胞のたんぱく質（抗原）に結びつく抗体を結合させた薬を作っ た。この薬を注射して、翌日、がん細胞の表面に付いたところで体を透過しやすい近赤外線を当て、熱を出してがん細胞を破壊する。赤外線は無害で、熱を出す 化学物質も体の中ですぐに代謝され、「安全性は高い」という。
　実験では、２週間で死んでしまう悪性がんのマウスに、この薬を注射して翌日に近赤外線を１日１５分照射する治療を２日間実施。これを１週間おきに４回繰り返すと、８割でがんが完治した。
　ガンに罹らない生活をすることが大切なのでしょうが、近い将来ガンも治る病気になっていくのかもしれませんね。ぜひ、実用化に向けて更なる研究を進めて欲しいですね。
