スーパードクター（Super Doctor）

通常の課程よりも短期間で博士号を取得する北陸先端科学技術大学院大（能美市）の「スーパードクタープログラム」を利用した初めての博士が23日誕生した。
　学位記授与式（卒業式）に臨んだ岐阜市出身の高橋さん（２５）は「日本の技術力の高さを世界でも示したい」と意気込みを語った。
　同大のスーパードクターは、大学三年生から編入し、通常よりも１年早い４年間で博士号を取得する制度。優秀な学生に早くから専門の研究施設で学ぶ機会を与えるため2008年に設けた。　名古屋大理学部の物理学科で学んでいた高橋さんは、同年夏、ダイレクトメールでプログラムを知って受験。ただ一人合格し、マテリアルサイエンス研究科で「酸化チタンのメカニズム解明」をテーマに研究を深めた。
　高橋さんは「一般の大学院では教授の補佐が院生の主な仕事。でも、北陸先端大では研究に集中できた」と振り返る。四月から勤める住友重機では、研究室で培った知識や経験を生かして燃料電池の電極開発などに携わる予定だ。
　研究室では、熱心な中国人や徹夜で論文を仕上げるインド人の学生も目にしてきた。「私と同じくらいの年齢でも中国や韓国の留学生が多いし、パワフルだと思います。日本人も、夢を持ってもっと貪欲になった方がいいように思います」。日本の環境技術を世界一のものにするのが今の目標だ。
　一方、同大では、高橋さんの後に続くプログラム利用者はいない。大学によると、大学3年生では、まだ進路を決めかねる学生も多いというのが、理由の一つという。利用する学生がいないというのは寂しい限りですね。
