東京都の1世帯当たり人員が1.99人と初めて2人を下回り、調査開始以来最小となったことが、15日都が発表した「住民基本台帳による東京都の世帯と人口」で明らかになった。1世帯あたりの人数は、1957年には4.09人だったが58年には4人を下回り、その後年々減少する一方で、66年に3人を割り、ついに今年1月1日時点で1.99人と2人を下回った。2人以下の世帯増加は、高齢化により独居老人あるいは高齢夫妻だけの世帯が増えていることが大きな原因の一つとみられる。都民全体に占める65歳以上の人口割合は、1985年当時8.82%だったのが、89年に10%を超えて以降、見る見るうちに増加、今年1月1日時点では20.76%と急激な高齢化を示している。まさに、少子高齢化社会そのものですね。このままでは、日本の国力は衰えていくばかりですね。どうするのも手の打ちようがない状況ですね。
