東京大や京都大など12の大学は、三菱電機や東レなど8社と連携して理系の大学院生を企業の研究開発に参加させる組織を立ち上げる。2万人の大学院生を対象にデータベースをつくり、3年間で計2000人を企業に派遣する。専門分野の垣根を越えた人材を企業で育成し、日本の技術革新の力を底上げする狙い。実質的な採用の道にもなり、理系院生の就職のあり方も多様化する公算が大きい。
12大学と8企業は22日、企業に大学院生の派遣をあっせんする一般社団法人「産学協働イノベーション人材育成コンソーシアム」を立ち上げる。企業はほかに三菱重工業、パナソニック、日立造船、村田製作所、ダイキン工業、DMG森精機。大学は東京工業、千葉、大阪、北海道、東北、筑波、神戸、九州、慶応義塾、早稲田も参加する。
 12大学の博士・修士課程に所属する約2万人の理学・工学・農学系の大学院生の個人情報をデータベース化し、企業が研究分野などから院生を検索できるシステムをつくる。企業も院生に任せる研究開発の内容を登録。院生が履歴書を提出できるようにする。
 このシステムを使い、今後3年間で2000人を企業が受け入れる。日本企業の海外現地法人や中小にも呼びかけ、参加企業も3年で40~50社まで増やす。企業はコンソーシアムに年100万円支払えば、参加できる。
 派遣期間は2~3カ月。企業側の代表理事を務める三菱電機の堤常務執行役は「学生に大学の基礎研究だけでなく企業の応用開発も経験させたい」という。企業を知る普通の就業体験と違い、学生に企業が市場に売り出す商品の開発の一部を任せる。優秀な院生を将来の社員として囲い込む狙いもある。
 大学院の研究分野は細分化し、修士課程、博士課程に進むほど専門性が強まり、逆に、研究を開発に応用する力が院生に乏しくなっているとの指摘がある。今回の枠組みは、商品開発の現場で働く体験を通じて学生に企業や社会のニーズを知ってもらい、専門の枠にとらわれない人材を輩出する狙い。産業界と大学が連携してイノベーションを生み出す人材を育てる試みといえる。
 企業が健康・医療や環境、エネルギーといった成長分野に力を入れるには、様々な専門分野から多彩な人材を集めなければならない。例えば人の手よりもきめ細かな動きをする手術ロボットを実用化するには医学の知識とともにロボット工学や新素材の技術が不可欠。今回の枠組みが人材の橋渡し役を担う。
 企業が従来の本業と異なる分野から学生を集めようとすると評価が難しい。研究分野は年々、細分化されて専門性が強まっており、似た分野の研究テーマでも理解しにくいからだ。従来は大学教授のつてを頼りに学生をさがしていた。
 学生側も博士課程を終えた若手研究者「ポスドク」を中心に就職活動に苦しんでいる。政府は科学技術立国を標榜して大勢のポスドクを育てたが、大学の研究職は足りず、3~5年の期限つき雇用につくのが精いっぱい。企業に雇ってもらうには、年齢などが壁になることが多い。両者にとって良い試みのような気がしますね。ぜひ、具体的な動きをしてほしいですね。
