　発症してから時間が経過していても治療効果が期待でき、患者自身の細胞を使うため拒絶反応の心配が少なく、安全性が高いという。
　チームを率いる山下教授は「脊髄損傷は事実上、有効な治療法がないが、この方法は多くの患者への効果が期待できる」と話している。
　チームによると、患者の腰の骨から骨髄液を採取し、神経となる「間葉系幹細胞」を分離。約２週間で約１万倍に培養し、約１億個の細胞が入った４０ミリリットルの薬剤を静脈に点滴する。
　試験は発症から１４日以内で、脊髄のうち主に首の部分を損傷した２０歳以上６５歳未満の患者が対象。良い治験結果が出ることを期待したいですね。
