島根県は２１日、竹島を日本の領土として記した江戸時代後期の地図５点を確認したと発表した。
　このうち「蝦夷風俗人情之沙汰付図　全図」と「蝦夷草紙全図」の２点は、幕府の蝦夷地調査隊で測量助手を務めた探検家の最上徳内が１７９０年に作製しており、同県は「竹島が日本領であるとの認識が、幕府をはじめ広く浸透していたことを示す貴重な資料」としている。
　ほかの３点は、「日本並北方図」と「寛政亜細亜地図」（いずれも１７９６年）、「華夷一覧図」（１８０６年）。同県の竹島問題研究会が各地の博物館などを調査して確認した。
　「蝦夷風俗――」と、その下絵の「蝦夷草紙全図」は、隠岐諸島の北西に島名はないものの竹島が描かれ、本土と同じ茶色に塗られている。「蝦夷風俗――」は幕府老中の松平定信に献呈された。「日本並北方図」など２点は二つの島に「松島（現・竹島）」と「竹島（現・韓国鬱陵島）」の表記があり、本土と同じ茶色に着色。「華夷一覧図」も島に「松シマ」「竹シマ」と記載し、日本領に分類している。江戸時代から竹島は日本領土であったという認識があったということですね。江戸時代の頃の韓国は李氏朝鮮です。全体的な文化レベルは日本で言えば飛鳥時代（592年〜710年）のものを想像すれば近いようです。その頃、独島を認識していたかは疑問ですね。
