　立候補したのは、無所属で前日弁連会長の宇都宮氏＝共産、社民推薦、無所属で元厚生労働相の舛添氏、無所属で元首相の細川氏ら。
　宇都宮、桝添両氏はＪＲ新宿駅前、細川氏は都庁前でそれぞれ第一声をあげた。
　各党は独自候補の擁立を見送った。自民、公明両党は舛添氏、民主、結い、生活の３党は細川氏を支援する。誰が都知事に当選するか注目ですね。
