Development of marine mineral exploration technology.

This year , of promoting research in the cross -ministerial " strategic innovation creation program" ( 50 billion yen ) , I devote several billion yen .In Japanese waters , as well as submarine hydrothermal deposits , discovered rare earths contained in the high concentration of components that are essential to high-tech industries such as ( rare earth ) mud is one after another . If you can ensure abundant resources , lower the dependence on rare earth imports from China , which leads to suppression of rising prices and stable supply of resources .

政府は、日本近海などの海底に豊富に存在するとみられる海底熱水鉱床などの鉱物を国産資源として有効活用するため、民間企業と共同で、無人潜水機や遠隔操作式の採取装置を使った海底鉱物探査技術の開発に今年から着手する。
安倍内閣が昨年６月に発表した日本再興戦略の一環として行われ、５年後の実用化を見込んでいる。
　政府関係者によると、開発には、経済産業、文部科学、国土交通、総務各省の研究機関と、石油資源開発など民間企業４社が参加する。今年は、府省横断で研究を進める「戦略的イノベーション創造プログラム」（５００億円）のうち、数十億円を充てる。
　日本近海では、海底熱水鉱床のほか、ハイテク産業に欠かせない成分が高濃度で含まれるレアアース（希土類）泥などの発見が相次いでいる。豊富な資源を確保できれば、中国からのレアアース輸入の依存度を下げ、資源の安定供給や価格高騰の抑制につながる。
