京都大大学院生命科学研究科の垣塚教授（分子細胞生物学）らの研究グループは３０日、ビールの原料の一つ「ホップ」のエキスにアルツハイマー病の予防効果があることをマウスを使った実験で確認したと発表した。アルツハイマー病の予防方法の開発につながる成果という。ビールに含まれる成分ではないが、サッポロビールが商品開発を進める。３０日付の米オンライン科学誌「プロス・ワン」に掲載された。
　研究グループによると、予防効果が確認されたのはホップの雌株の花に含まれるエキス。啤酒花（ひしゅか）という生薬として中国では鎮痛薬に、欧米では不眠改善のハーブなどとして使われている。妊婦が大量に飲むことは好ましくないとされている。
　アルツハイマー病はたんぱく質「アミロイドβ（ベータ）（Ａβ）」が脳内にたまることが原因の一つとされている。研究グループは、Ａβの産出を促す酵素に着目。約１６００種類の植物エキスを調べたところ、ホップエキスに含まれる成分が酵素の働きを最も強く抑えられることが分かった。
　アルツハイマー病のマウスを使った実験でも、通常の水を飲ませていたマウスは生後９カ月目で記憶力や学習能力の低下が見られたが、生後約１カ月半からホップエキスを溶かした水を飲んでいたマウスの能力低下が見られたのは同１５カ月目以降だった。
　垣塚教授は「Ａβがたまり始めるとされる４０代から摂取するのが望ましいのではないか。予防に加え症状が軽い場合に進行を遅らせる効果も期待できる」と話している。
ビールに含まれると本当は良いんですね。商品化が出来るといいですね。
