筑波大学が初めて宇宙へ送る小型人工衛星「結」が２１日、宇宙航空研究開発機構（ＪＡＸＡ）に引き渡され、２月２８日に打ち上げられる予定だ。衛星本体は完成しており、学内関係者らに公開された。
　結は、システム情報系の亀田准教授と学生約２０人が開発している。大きさは１辺約１０センチの立方体で、衛星内部の温度データなどを送信する。データは簡易なアンテナで受信でき、世界中の人たちが交流できるようにする。
　永田学長や教員らが先月２５日、結の開発が行われている部屋を訪れ、無塵衣を着て、まもなく宇宙へ飛び立つ結をじっくり見たり開発の経緯を聞いたりした。設計などを担当した４年生の野中さんは「ずっと地道な作業を続けてきたがようやく日の目を見る。開発が大変な時期もあったがやっと報われた気分だ」と話した。本当に小型な人工衛星ですね。軌道に乗って世界中の人が交流できるようになるといいですね。
