２０２５年からの火星移住を目指すオランダの民間非営利団体「マーズワン財団」は１２月３０日、約２０万人の移住希望者の中から１０５８人の候補者を選んだと発表した。
　この中には、男女５人ずつ計１０人の日本人が含まれているという。
　今後、医学的な検査や訓練などを経て最終的に２４人に絞り込む。２５年には最初の４人が火星に住み始め、その後、２年ごとに４人ずつ増やしていく計画だ。移住者は二度と地球に戻らない。地上での訓練や火星に居住している様子をテレビ放映し、資金を集めていく考えだ。
　同財団は２０１３年４～８月に移住希望者を募集。技術力や安全性を疑問視する声もあったが、世界中から２０万２５８６人が応募した。希望者が提出した１分間のビデオメッセージや書類などを審査し、１０７か国・地域から１０５８人を選んだ。どんな基準で選考したんでしょうかね？
