金沢大の金子教授（恒常性制御学）らの研究グループが、高カロリーの食事の機会の多い、肥満した人の体内で多く分泌され、血糖値を上昇させて糖尿病にかかりやすくするホルモンを突き止め、２９日付の米医学誌電子版に発表した。このホルモンは肝臓で分泌される「ＬＥＣＴ２」で、この働きを抑える薬の開発など、糖尿病治療への応用が期待できるという。
　肥満した人は、すい臓で分泌され、血糖値を下げる働きを持つ別のホルモン「インスリン」が効かなくなる「インスリン抵抗性」が血糖を取り込む最大の組織である骨格筋内で主に起き、糖尿病にかかりやすい。研究では試験管内での培養実験を通じ、ＬＥＣＴ２の働きによって人の骨格筋の細胞内でインスリン抵抗性が起きることを確認した。また、マウスに高カロリーの餌を１週間与えると、血中のＬＥＣＴ２の濃度が上昇。高カロリーの食事で多量に分泌されることも分かった。
　さらに、石川県内で人間ドックを受診した男女２００人への調査では、ＢＭＩ（肥満度を示す体格指数）が高い人ほどＬＥＣＴ２の血中濃度が高かった。
　グループは「肥満した人は増えており、今後、ＬＥＣＴ２の働きを抑える治療法が開発されれば、肥満した人が糖尿病にかかるリスクを軽減できるようになるだろう」と期待している。
　肥満や糖尿病の予防薬の開発に結びついていくといいですね。
