Google日本法人は11月1日、独自の5インチAndroidスマートフォン「Nexus 5」を発売した。Google Playでの価格は16Gバイトモデルが3万9800円、32Gバイトモデルが4万4800円。
　同日発表した新OS「Android 4.4」（コードネーム：KitKat）を初めて搭載。SIMロックフリーで、3G回線（GSM/WCDMA）と4G/LTE網をサポートする。
　メーカーはNexus 4と同じく韓国LG Electronics。4.95インチのフルHDディスプレイ（1920×1080ピクセル、445ppi）を搭載し、「現実と変わらない色合いを再現する」という。
米CorningのGorilla Glass 3の採用で耐衝撃性を高めたほか、画面のぎらつきも抑えたとしている。
