　公開されたのは、有栖川宮幟仁（たかひと）親王が記した明治新政府の基本方針「五箇条御誓文（ごかじょうのごせいもん）」、後鳥羽上皇による写本「新古今和歌集」など。坂本龍馬が自筆した「薩長同盟裏書（うらがき）」は、桂小五郎（後の木戸孝允）に求められ、龍馬が朱字で保証の裏書きをしたものだ。
　鎌倉時代の日記文学「とはずがたり」の写本は、世の中に一つしかないとされ「天下の孤本」と称される貴重なものという。
