沖縄県立博物館・美術館（那覇市）は２１日、同県南城市のサキタリ洞遺跡で土器が見つかり、放射性炭素年代測定法による分析で、沖縄最古となる８千年前（縄文時代早期相当）の土器と判明したと発表した。同館は「沖縄で土器が未確認だった空白の時期を埋める成果」としている。
　沖縄で年代が確認できた最古の土器は７千～６千年前だった。本州や九州などではさらに古い土器があるが、沖縄での土器使用が千年さかのぼることになる。土器が見つかった地点より下層も調査しており、さらに古い土器が見つかる可能性もある。
　同館によると、土器は５千年前の土器が見つかった地層の下層から、イノシシの骨などと一緒にまとまって出土。１個分の胴部の破片が約２０点見つかった。復元すると直径約３０センチの鉢になるという。表面には、強弱をつけながら棒状の道具を引いて施したような「押引文」という文様がある。
　平成２１年に始まったサキタリ洞遺跡の調査では、１万２千年前の人骨と石器も出土している。
沖縄の環境から考えると、もっと古い土器が出てきてもおかしくないと思いますね。
