気象庁は１日、南極上空の「オゾンホール」の面積が９月１６日に今年最大になったと発表した。２００３年以降１０年間の平均と同程度だが、南極大陸の面積の約１・７倍に相当し、規模の大きい状態が続いているという。
　気象庁は南極上空のオゾン層を破壊するフロンの濃度は緩やかに減少しているが、依然として高い状態にあると分析。上空約２０キロの下部成層圏の気温にもよるため「今年より大規模なオゾンホールが発生することも考えられる」とした。オゾンホールは有害な紫外線から地上の生物を守るオゾンが極端に少なくなる現象。
　人間を含めた生物に大きな影響が現れなければいいのですが・・・・。
