約３６億年前の火星に微生物などの生命を育むことができる湖があったことを無人探査車「キュリオシティー」で確かめたと、米航空宇宙局（ＮＡＳＡ）の研究チームが米科学誌サイエンス電子版に９日発表した。
　昨年８月に火星のクレーターに着陸したキュリオシティーの観測結果を分析。着陸地点から約４５０メートル離れた「イエローナイフベイ」と呼ばれる深さ５メートルほどのくぼ地に、水をたたえた湖が少なくとも数万年にわたって存在したと結論付けた。微生物の痕跡そのものは見つかっていないが、ＮＡＳＡはさらに生命活動の直接の証拠を探す方針。
地球上の生命の誕生が35億年的いう記事がありましたが、そこくらいの古代には地球上以外にも生命の誕生があったのかもしれませんね。
