京都大ｉＰＳ細胞研究所は２０日、人工多能性幹細胞（ｉＰＳ細胞）について、広い範囲の作製方法をカバーする新たな特許を取得したと発表した。国内での特許取得は６件目。
　研究所によると、従来の特許は、ｉＰＳ細胞を作製する際に使用する遺伝子を特定した上で、個別方法に対して取得していた。今回は、遺伝子を限定せず、候補となる遺伝子全体を含む作製過程に網をかけるもので、京都大の権利が包括的に認められるという。同研究所の高尾・知財管理室長は「ｉＰＳ細胞作製方法に関する権利は、ほぼ押さえることができた。ライセンス料を安価にし、医療応用などに役立てたい」としている。臨床応用に向けて拍車がかかる特許になることを期待します。
