東京医科歯科大病院（東京都文京区）は２６日、膝の組織から増やした細胞を移植し、損傷した半月板を再生する国内初の手術を行う。
　半月板損傷の治療は推定で年間３万人以上に行われているが、その９割は損傷部を切除しており、膝の機能に障害が残ることが多い。今回の方法は切除せずに半月板を修復し、運動機能を保つのが狙い。半年後に安全性を評価し、治療法として確立させていく。
　同大再生医療研究センターの関教授（整形外科）らのグループは今月１２日、５０代の男性患者の膝関節を覆って保護する「滑膜かつまく」という組織から、軟骨などになりやすい細胞を採取した。体外で増やし、ゲル状にして２６日に注射器で膝に移植する。翌日から膝を動かして半月板の再生を促し、来年６月に安全性と修復状況を確かめる。１月には４０代男性で同じ治療をし、来春までに２０～５０代の計５人を対象とした臨床研究を実施する。
　良好な結果が出て治療法として確立していくといいですね。
