　ドイツのマックスプランク進化人類学研究所などのチームは、２０１０年に洞窟で見つかった長さ２・６センチの足の指の骨からＤＮＡを採取してゲノム（全遺伝情報）を解読。特徴からネアンデルタール人の女性と特定した。この女性が父と母から受け継いだ遺伝子を調べると、配列の似ている部分が多かった。
　チームは「これほど遺伝的に似ている父と母は血縁が近い」と推定。異父きょうだい、おじとめいなどの関係である可能性が高いとみている。現代人のゲノムの約２％に、ネアンデルタール人の配列が残っていることも判明した。
　小さな集団で生活していたでしょうから近親者間で関係を持つのは当然なのかもしれませんね。
