文部科学省は１１日、国産ロケット「イプシロン」の打ち上げ能力向上に、来年から着手することを決めた。
イプシロンは今年９月、初号機の打ち上げが成功。同省は、さまざまなサイズの中小型衛星に対応できるよう改良し、国内外の衛星打ち上げ受注を狙う方針で、大型ロケットのＨ２Ａの改良費用も含め、今年度補正予算案に約６５億円を盛り込む。
　イプシロンは、従来の国産ロケットよりも打ち上げ費用を大幅に引き下げ、衛星打ち上げ市場での競争力を持たせたのが特徴。今後、機体の軽量化や、衛星搭載部の大型化を進め、初号機よりも大きめの衛星を搭載できるようにする。２０１５年度、地球観測衛星「ＡＳＮＡＲＯ２」の打ち上げを目指す。
