文部科学省は11日、国産ロケット「イプシロン」の打ち上げ能力向上に、来年から着手することを決めた。
イプシロンは今年9月、初号機の打ち上げが成功。同省は、さまざまなサイズの中小型衛星に対応できるよう改良し、国内外の衛星打ち上げ受注を狙う方針で、大型ロケットのH2Aの改良費用も含め、今年度補正予算案に約65億円を盛り込む。
イプシロンは、従来の国産ロケットよりも打ち上げ費用を大幅に引き下げ、衛星打ち上げ市場での競争力を持たせたのが特徴。今後、機体の軽量化や、衛星搭載部の大型化を進め、初号機よりも大きめの衛星を搭載できるようにする。2015年度、地球観測衛星「ASNARO2」の打ち上げを目指す。
世界の衛星打ち上げ市場で圧倒的な競争力を持たせるべく様々な面で改良を重ねてほしいですね。
