国立循環器病研究センター（大阪府吹田市）は５日、手足の末端の血管が詰まる難病「バージャー病」の患者の血管に細い管（カテーテル）を通して広げ、血流を再開させる治療に成功したと発表した。この病気のカテーテル治療で、成功したのは全国初という。
　同センター血液内科医長の河原田さんによると、バージャー病の患者は全国で約１万人。悪化すると壊疽を起こし、全体の１割は足を切断しており、血管拡張剤などの薬で効果が出ない患者の治療は難しい。
　血流が詰まるひざ下や足首付近の血管は直径１・５～２・５ミリと細く、これまで管を通すのは困難とされていた。動脈硬化のカテーテル治療に使う器具や手法の発達で、河原田さんはバージャー病の患者にも応用できると判断した。
　心臓などの治療や診断に用いられるカテーテル。細いカテーテルの開発や手法の発達で可能になったんでしょうね。原因の究明も必要な気がしますがね。
