建築家で東京大名誉教授の安藤忠雄さんが１９日、東京のフランス大使公邸で、仏芸術文化勲章の最高章コマンドールを受けた。安藤さんのフランスでの作品は、パリのユネスコ本部などにある。
　安藤さんは授章式後、「２０代のときにフランスでル・コルビュジエの作品を見て、何としても建築家になりたいと思った。日本の情緒と西洋の文化を建築を通して交流させたいと考えてきました。これからも全力でがんばってゆきたい」とあいさつした。
安藤忠雄は1941年大阪生まれの建築家。香川県・直島の「地中美術館」や大阪府・茨木市の「光の教会」、東京都・表参道の「表参道ヒルズ」、「東急東横渋谷駅」など数多くの建築を手がけており、1979年に日本建築学会賞、1995年にプリツカー賞を受賞するなど、国内外で高い評価を得ている。近年では、2020年東京オリンピックの舞台であり、ザハ・ハディト・アーキテクツの考案した採用デザイン案が話題となっている「新国立競技場」の公募に際して、審査委員長を務めた。
このたび受賞した「フランス芸術文化勲章」は、1957年に設立された、フランス文化省が運営する名誉勲章。芸術や文学において傑出した功績のあった人物に授与されるもので、近年では映画監督の北野武、現代美術家の草間彌生、歌舞伎役者の十二代目市川團十郎が受章している。「コマンドゥール」は3つある等級のひとつで、最高位のものとなる。
