細胞に遺伝性疾患を起こす遺伝子変異や微生物感染がないことを確かめたうえで、２０１４年末以降、大阪大や慶応大、理化学研究所へ、臨床研究用に提供する。
計画は、現在の技術ではｉＰＳ細胞の作製に時間がかかりすぎて早期の治療が必要な患者に使えないという課題を解消しようと、昨年から始まった。ただ、他人の細胞から作ったｉＰＳ細胞を使う場合は、拒絶反応を起こしにくい細胞を選ぶ必要がある。
７５～１５０種類のｉＰＳ細胞を確保できれば、日本人を対象にした８～９割の再生医療がカバーできるとされ、ｉＰＳ細胞研究所は２２年度までにストックを完了させる。血液からｉＰＳ細胞が作成できるようになればストック計画は急速に進みそうですね。
