冬至の２２日、須坂市動物園が人気者カピバラのためにゆず湯を用意した。「世界最大のネズミ」として知られるカピバラは、南米原産で寒さに弱い。ゆず湯で厳しい寒さを乗り切ってほしい―と同園が企画。来園者で人だかりができ、目を細めてゆず湯に漬かるカピバラの姿を眺めた。
　午前１１時、小雪が舞う中で職員が園舎内の柵を開くと、カピバラの親子８匹は一斉にゆず湯の露天風呂に向かい、順番に漬かっていった。すいすいと泳いだりするカピバラに、来園者がカメラを向けていた。
　露天風呂は幅１５０センチ、奥行き１３０センチ、深さ３５センチ。カピバラの「華（はな）」と「光（こう）」に六つ子が誕生して家族が増えたため、動物園が１１月に新設した。来年３月までの毎週土、日曜日と祝日に湯を張っており、来園者はカピバラの入浴を観察できる。
　長野市高田から訪れた女の子は「気持ちよさそう。かわいい」と大はしゃぎ。母親は「親子仲良く入浴する姿に癒やされました」と話していた。
