英教育専門誌、タイムズ・ハイヤー・エデュケーション（ＴＨＥ）は31日、開学から50年未満の大学のみを調査対象とした「世界の新興大学ランキング」を発表した。
上位５校のうち３校を韓国と香港が占めるなど、東アジア勢への高評価が目立った。日本からは筑波大（39）が唯一、上位100校に入った。 　
　このランキングは、毎年「世界大学ランキング」を発表している同誌による初の試み。研究論文の引用回数や留学生の数など、13の要素を基に評価した。１位は韓国の浦項工科大、３位は香港の香港科技大だった。
 　日本については、伝統ある大学が国際的な競争力維持に苦しんでいると指摘。筑波大のランクインは「日本を勇気づけるものだ」としている。勇気づける以上に、日本の凋落傾向を印象付ける結果になってしまっていると感じるのは私ばかりでしょうかね。
