Clock of ieyasu(家康の時計)

徳川家康が１６１１年にスペイン国王から贈られた日本に残る最古の西洋時計（国の重要文化財）について、大英博物館の専門家が１７日、「内部の機械などが当時のまま残り、同時代・地域の時計では世界的にも貴重」とする評価を公表した。
所有、展示している久能山東照宮（静岡市）が鑑定を依頼し、時計部門の最高責任者デビッド・トンプソン氏が１６日から来日調査していた。
西洋時計は、家康が千葉県沖で難破したスペイン船の乗組員をもてなし無事帰国させたことへのお礼として、国王フェリペ３世が贈呈。フランドル（現在のオランダ、ベルギー北部）の時計師ハンス・デ・エバロが１５８１年に製作したぜんまい式で、高さ２１．５センチ、重さ２．８キロの真ちゅう製。
記者会見したトンプソン氏は、１６世紀にこの地域で作られた時計は欧米に２０台現存するが、多くは部品交換や改造が施されていると指摘。「家康の時計は４００年間ほとんど手を加えられておらず、当時の状態でケースや内部の機械、皮製カバーが三つそろっているのは世界に１台だ」と述べた。
久能山東照宮の落合宮司は「価値が評価されてうれしい」と語り、国宝指定に期待を寄せた。金銭的には評価できない価値を持った時計なんでしょうが、どのくらいの値段が付くものか知りたい気もしますね。国宝になるんじゃないんでしょうかね。
