富山大は、妊婦の子宮内で胎児を包む羊膜を利用して再生医療に生かすため、民間企業2社と新会社「アムノス」を設立した。羊膜は細胞の再生を助け、早める働きがあり、角膜や脳の硬膜の修復のほか、舌がんの治療や中耳炎の手術など、幅広い医療分野での活用が期待できる。
 羊膜は保存が難しく、通常は分娩後に廃棄される。富山大医学部の二階堂教授(再生医学)らは、真空状態で羊膜にマイクロ波や遠赤外線を当て、再生を助ける機能を失わずに乾燥させる技術を確立、国内で特許を取得した。凍結した状態で3カ月が限度だった保存期間が、常温で2年間と長くなり、簡単に扱えるという利点もある。
 富山大病院では、眼科や脳神経外科、歯科口腔外科、耳鼻咽喉科で計100件を超える臨床研究が行われ、副作用もほとんどなく、経過も良好だという。
胎児を包んで育んでくれる羊膜だけに再生にも大きく貢献しそうですね。
