　「小学校３年まで、引っ込み思案で勉強もできなくて、人嫌いでした」
　４０人学級で成績は下から２番目。「たぶん信じてもらえないから」と記者会見で公開した当時の成績表は、１９項目のうち「よい」が２つ、「ふつう」が５つ、残り１２項目は「もう少し」だった。
　現在の肩書は理化学研究所の准主任研究員。原子を構成する陽子や中性子の振る舞いを探究する原子核物理の理論計算の分野で、世界を牽引（けんいん）する研究者の一人だ。
　小３の夏休みから小６まで毎日、勉強をみてくれた母親の「ちょっと変わっていたけど、母の教え方が素晴らしかった」
