　日本国内でも導入が進み、「日本オープンコースウェア・コンソーシアム（ＪＯＣＷ）」によると、国内では、東京大▽京都大▽大阪大▽東京工業大▽北海道大▽名古屋大▽九州大▽早稲田大▽慶応大－など準備中を含めると現在は２１大学が導入。導入校は８年前の約４倍に増加し、現在の公開科目数は約３千科目に及ぶ。

　草分けのＭＩＴでは、全ての講義１８００科目を公開している。人気講義「ニュートン力学」は、ゆっくりとした英語で体を使いながら力学の法則を説明。英語字幕や講義内容の全文が閲覧でき、英語や物理が得意な高校生なら興味深いはずだ。
