 一方、NECも約96億円を投じ、来年6月の稼働開始を目指して、府中事業場(東京都府中市)で人工衛星の試験・組立工場の建設を進めている。生産能力は8基で、三菱電機と同じ。
 三菱電機によると、世界の商用衛星需要は、年間30基の規模で推移すると見込まれ、2社は米ロッキードやボーイングなど海外有力メーカーと激しい受注合戦を繰り広げている。
 三菱電機の岡村・鎌倉製作所所長は「海外の大型衛星の需要を取り込みたい」とし、大型の標準衛星開発を検討していることを明らかにした。こうした取り組みで、衛星関連の売上高を平成24年度の約700億円から、32年度に1500億円に拡大させる方針。
 政府は今年1月、日本の宇宙政策の柱になる今後5年間の新宇宙基本計画を策定し、官民連携で、アジア諸国などに日本の科学技術を売り込む。宇宙空間の様々な活用に人工衛星は有用でしょうが、海洋資源開発に向けて深海底探査船製造や海洋開発技術の確立などにも力を入れてほしい気がしますね。
