携帯電話やノートパソコンに欠かせない「リチウムイオン電池」の開発者として知られる吉野・旭化成フェローが、ロシアの「グローバルエネルギー賞」を受賞することが１８日、決まった。
　ロシア人研究者との共同受賞で、賞金は総額３３００万ルーブル（約１億円）。６月にサンクトペテルブルクで授賞式が行われる。
　同賞はロシアの科学者グループが提唱し、２００２年にプーチン大統領が創設を決めた。０３年以降、エネルギー分野で顕著な功績があった研究者２～３人を毎年、表彰している。
　吉野氏は１９８０年代、最適な電極材料を研究し、リチウムイオン電池の開発に成功した。
　日本人の受賞は、国際熱核融合実験炉（ＩＴＥＲ）設計の国際活動で２００６年に受賞した吉川・旧日本原子力研究所理事長に次いで２人目となる。受賞おめでとうございます。後継者の育成と同時に更なる開発にも取り組んでほしい気がしますね。
