京都大学の総長（学長）選考会議は、次期学長について、国内だけでなく世界から公募する方針を決めた。
世界中の優秀な研究者や学生が集う大学を実現するために、学部など部局のしがらみから離れた強いリーダーシップを発揮できる人材が必要と判断した。文部科学省によると、国立大学が学長を国際公募する例はなく、日本トップクラスの京大の判断が他大学に与える影響は大きい。
現在の松本学長は今年９月３０日に任期満了となる。関係者によると、早ければ４月中に米・ハーバードや英・ケンブリッジ、東京大などの学長らに学長候補者の推薦を依頼する。教職員５０人以上の推薦などがあれば学内からも推薦することができる。
推薦を受け、門川京都市長ら学外の６人と学内の教員６人でつくる選考会議が、世界をリードできる京大の学長にふさわしいかどうかを審査し、最終決定する。最初に絞られた候補者を対象に、教職員の意向を探る調査の実施も検討している。京都大学も思い切ったことをやりますね。良いんじゃないでしょうかね。世界をリードできる良き人材が決まることを首を長くして待ってます。
