　この医師は、九州帝国大（現九州大）教授だった三宅氏。アインシュタインが欧州から日本に向かう船で体調を崩した際、偶然乗り合わせた三宅氏が治療した縁で親交を深めた。
　今回寄贈されたのは、アインシュタインが来日後に雑誌「改造」に発表した日本訪問記の草稿全８枚▽帰国後に三宅氏に送った礼状や色紙▽太平洋戦争中の空襲で亡くなった三宅夫妻のため戦後書いた墓碑銘の原本−−など。三宅氏の孫でエッセイストの比企氏が保管していたが、アインシュタイン生誕１３５年を機に寄贈した。
